It was Good Friday here in NL so as was in India; Chirstians are majority here in NL and very-less in India; But it was working day here in NL and holiday in India. Every little reason in India converts into public holiday..someone born, somebody died..and if nothing let all take a bath n a holiday for that. And if anything do for masses is give them a reason for holiday. India as a country of religious diversity its amazingly stupid that a reason for holiday for merely 1-3% of the population stops the work life of 97% and they all don't work for no reason. As a country if it is tried to be reasionable and stop it, its going to be a big debate. People trying for it will be labelled communal, not respecting other religion. Its a big mess where workmanship is less preached than religion..so just relax you got to be secular!
World is full of words and we all argue up to our most when ever we get a chance..but don't you feel that our words do like antibiotics that they do not work when they have to be a saviour for us...personally I feel so......may be u too.

Strange NL didn't have an off on Good friday whereas US did.
Coming back to your point, India as a country does not stands up for one particular religion. Their are multiple religions and in someway the country needs to balance it all. If there is a holiday for a Hindu on Diwali there has to be a holiday for Christian on Good Friday/ Easter. The point is straight, secularism is for all. Not one in particular should be benefited.
Both these countries are different in their own ways. I wouldn't say people don't work in India, infact I would say they are even more hardworking, just that the perspective of hard work changes in both the countries.
